I met Chandbi Amma on a busy ignorant street while she tried, unsuccessfully, to hitch a ride with any kind passenger. When I dropped her off she told me she is here to beg for alms or any form of material kindness.
Chandbi Amma lives in the car park of a small building where the owners have allowed her a place to sleep. She does odd jobs and spends the rest of her time near the Masjid, waiting for kindness. Amma has been a recipient of our ration kits for three months and is happy with her rice, dal, tea (as requested), and basic condiments. She also introduced us to another single mother in the same building who lives with her three grown kids.
Ruksana has been on our ration list for two months. The women’s worries of acquiring basic food for themselves and each other is no longer a burden.
Ten minutes away, Laxmi lives with her daughter, son-in-law and kids, and her three teenage sons. They have been the recipient of our ration kits for two months.
Meanwhile Nallamma (now newborn mother to her third) and her family have allowed us the privilege of sharing rations with them for two months.
Our ration kits may be modified as per the recipients request but have so far been accepted with gratitude.
This month we divided the kits into two weight categories for singles like Chandbi Amma and families like Ruksana and Laxmi.
